My name is Erin Bruno and I’m asking for your vote for Magisterial District Judge in 15-4-03 I have been a resident of West Whiteland Township since 2013 in our family home where my husband and I brought home our two boys. I have lived and worked in Chester County since 2008 as an attorney in the Chester County Public Defender’s Office. I come from a family of public servants, and have known that I would devote my life to public service myself from a young age. My teacher parents raised their three daughters in rural western Pennsylvania to value education, hard work, and the giving of their time to under-served populations through example. I followed in their footsteps and attended their alma mater IUP, in the Honors College Program. After graduation with a BA in English, I set out to earn my juris doctorate from Boston College Law School. I wanted to focus on international human rights law in law school, as I’d gotten a taste for it during my junior study abroad year at Trinity College, Dublin, but through participating in B.C.'s clinical programs, I realized there was plenty of work to do right here at home to ensure human rights were protected in our own criminal justice system. After a judicial clerkship in Philadelphia with Judge Denis Cohen in 2007, I discovered Chester County and applied to the office I have worked in ever since.
My husband and I had our very first date right in West Chester Borough where we discussed our intersecting career paths. He has taught in the West Chester Area School District as a high school science teacher and coach for the last 20 years. I’m thrilled that our boys will get to go to school in a town with such a rich history and deep family ties.

Since moving to this community after law school, I joined Big Brothers/Big Sisters of SEPA and was paired with an awesome little sister from Coatesville who came to live in our home as a foster daughter for several years. It gave me additional insight into the system in place in our community when parents can no longer take care of their children, and what it is like to navigate those systems. I have remained involved with the Philadelphia chapter of the Boston College Law School alumni association and am the co-chair of the membership committee of the Chester County Bar Association. I have been involved with the local West Whiteland Democrats as a committee person for many years, helping to assist at our local polling place each election day. Last year, I was elected by my fellow committee persons as the Zone Leader, helping to head up our efforts to get out the vote and connect our local voters with the political process. In 2021, I was approached to run for West Whiteland Tax Collector, and won against an opponent who had been using the job as something of a side hustle, defeating him handily in the general election. In my free time, I could be found (pre-COVID) skating with Brandywine Roller Derby League under the skater name Splatticus Finch, but these days my Moms' Book Club and running my two sons to little league and taekwondo and cello lessons keeps me occupied.
Our vibrant community deserves a judge who is devoted to this community. My husband is a career public educator and coach at Henderson High School and Peirce Middle School. Our vibrant community deserves a judge who is devoted to this community. My husband is a career public educator and coach at Henderson High School and Peirce Middle School. My children attend East Bradford Elementary school, and play in West Side Little League. and attend martial arts classes at our local West Whiteland Dragon Gym. I have worked for Chester County for almost the entirety of my legal career. This beautiful County and our district is full of such a wonderful mix of people and their variety of issues and needs, that my desire to be of further service has never been stronger. I have extensive experience working with clients on their very worst day to help resolve their cases in the most compassionate way possible. I've been on the frontlines of getting addicts into rehab, getting mentally ill persons into treatment, getting juveniles back on track, and trying the cases of those wrongfully accused of breaking the law. I believe I can now do more good, as a practitioner with empathy, patience and care, helping to make decisions from the bench. Whether it's setting bail, hearing preliminary hearings, traffic hearings, landlord/tenant decisions, or small claims, I know my ear for listening and my experience meeting the needs of people in a jam will help me be a thoughtful and fair judge. As a mom of young children, I know I want to set an example of community involvement and civic engagement for them to follow. I am proud of where I live and work and I look forward to earning your vote so that I can further serve our community in District 15-4-03.
